Camp Manitou
An Outdoor Tribal Adventure Camp
Ages 5 to 15
Join us this summer for awesome fun and adventure in the woods! We'll be immersed in a role-playing game where two opposing tribes call a truce in order to survive after a natural disaster. As the adventure begins, the survivors from the two tribes, having barely managing to escape with only a few possessions, create an alliance in order to increase their chances of survival. They must hunt for food, rebuild their homes and village, and reinvent tribal laws and rituals. The strange, new land they now inhabit is abundant and promises much happiness, but unknown perils and enemies await...
Camp Manitou provides skill development within the realm of a richly complex role-playing game. Two or more tribes are united by tragic circumstances and must work together to ensure their continued survival, prevail against their enemies, and preserve their precious resources. Within the broad framework of this adventure story, outdoor and leadership skills are learned and practiced, responsibility for individual needs and those of the community must be balanced, and physical endurance and inner vision are equally valuable. Within an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect, all participants are encouraged to create and direct the evolution of the character(s) they play, as well as influence the events and sub plots of the unfolding story. Most activities will be cooperative. Some games and tournament-like events will be played in the spirit of friendly competition. We'll move the fun indoors in case of inclement weather.
Most importantly, the Camp Manitou experience is fun and safe for all. The Camp's two staff members have 50+ years combined outdoor camping and scouting experience. Both are staff at HVSS, experienced with young people ages 5 to 19. Our counselors, ages 16-19, are energetic, responsible HVSS students or former students who have experience with role-playing games and have demonstrated a talent for fostering a sense of adventure and community.
