I'm not really a punk, however Punk isn't my favorite, but once in a while a song rubs me just right. Like kill the poor by the kennedies. There are some tasty tracks here, some aren't as raw as I like, but thats ok. The simple reason for the 5 stars are the sheer number of songs I here I just love. My only complaint is that theese are all punk bands, where's pearl jam, where's System of a Down? But that is overshadowed by the quality of songs, maybe on volume 2. Here is a list of songs I like: Moron by Sum 41, Baghdad by The Offspring, Lion and the Lamb by The Get Up Kids, Give It All by Rise Against, No W by Mistry, Sad State of Affairs by the Descendents, Revolution by Authority Zero, That's Progress by Jello Biafra with D.O.A. (by far my favorite here, sounds like old school dead kennedies), To the World by Strike Anywhere, God Save The USA by Pennywise, Jaw, Knee, Music by NOFX, The Brightest Bulb Has Burned Out by Less Than Jake with Billy Bragg. A Good Comp, No Matter What Your Politics Whatever your views, Rock Against Bush Vol. 1 is still a good comp (the cover art's kinda funny). I bought this CD for a couple of reasons. 1) Sum 41 is my favorite band, and they had a new song on here. 2) It has 26 songs, a DVD, and it was $8.99. Turns out, the Sum 41 song is only decent (and short as hell at 1:39). So after listening to the whole CD, here's my view: 1) Nothing to Do When You're Locked in A Vacancy (None More Black): I don't really like this song. It's not bad, just not my taste. 2) Moron (Sum 41): Not great, but it doesn't suck. I was expecting more from my favorite band, but they still rock. 3) Warbrain (Alkaline Trio): This song is great. My first real introduction to Alkaline Trio. I'm impressed. 4) Need More Time (Epoxies): What the hell? Oh well, it's catchy. 5) The School of Assasins (Anti-Flag): My first introduction to Anti-Flag, now one of my favorite bands (and I don't have many). 6) Sink, Florida, Sink (Against Me!): Not my thing. I find this song annoying. 7) Baghdad (The Offspring): I like Offspring, but not this song. 8) Lion and the Lamb (The Get Up Kids): Again not my thing, but it's not bad. 9) Give It All (Rise Against): Good song. 10) No w (Ministry): Nice intro. I find the vocals painful to listen to, but that's just me. 11) Sad State of Affairs (Descendents): I like it. Good, not great. 12) Revolution (Authority Zero): Great song. 13) !Paranoia! Cha-cha-cha (The Soviettes): Strange, but decent. It's catchy. 14) That's Progress (Jello Biafra with D.O.A.): Great intro. Decent song. 15) Overcome (RX Bandits): I find this song stange and annoying. 16) No Voice of Mine (Strung Out): Great guitar. Great song. 17) To The World (Strike Anywhere): From the first second of the song, it's full of energy, and the lyrics are awesome. Great song. 18) Heaven is Falling (The Ataris)- This song has some good lyrics. The vocalist has to strain his voice on some of the higher notes, but overall it's good. 19) God Save the USA (Pennywise): It's Pennywise. Great song. 20) Normal Days (Denali): The vocalist has a great voice. The intro is great, the rest of the time it sounds like she's whining. Not good. 21) The Expatriate (The World/Inferno Friendship Society): The song is pretty good. 22) No News Is Good News (New Found Glory): This is the only NFG song I have ever liked. Good AND meaningful lyrics. 23) Basket of Snakes (The Frisk): It's ok. Strange, but interesting. 24) Jaw, Knee, Music (NOFX): Again, it's NOFX. Great song. 25) It's the Law (Social Distortion): Not my thing, but good. 26) The Brightest Bulb Has Burned Out (Less Than Jake featuring Bill Bragg): Good song. Simple, and not very deep, but good. The DVD includes 4 music videos as well: 1) Turncoat (Anti-Flag): One of my favorite Anti-Flag songs, and the song that really introduced me to Anti-Flag (I watched the DVD before I listened to the CD). 2) Sorrow (Bad Religion): Bad Religion is a great band. This song is great. 3) Infrared (Strike Anywhere): Another great song by Strike Anywhere. 4) Franco Un-American (NOFX)- Funny, good song by NOFX, with a messed up video. The DVD also includes some comedy by David Cross, and some documentaries to rag on Bush. Well, I just told you what I think (which may not help you one bit), but it's what I think. There's a lot of songs I don't like (and a lot I do), but for $8.99, this really was a good buy. Besides, without this, I'd never gotten into Anti-Flag. Some of the worst music I have ever heard These are some of the crapiest collaboration of artists (if you want to call them that) that I have ever seen. These bands have no talent what so ever. These are the "punk" bands of America. This kind of music isn't even punk its crappy pop to make American teens hate the current presidency. I can't believe that this is the best you people could come up with to "rock against Bush." |
