| | Description: While a tad more expensive than most other baby carriers, Baby Björn carriers offer parents some wonderful design features that make it well worth the extra money. By allowing you to hold your baby snugly against your chest, the carrier promotes a sense of comfort and closeness between a parent and a child. It also allows you to maintain eye contact with and talk to your little one during trips to the store, walks around the house, and short hikes (for both mom and dad). The carrier's other big advantage is that it frees up both your hands while you carry your infant. The black carrier consists of a large triangular front piece that supports baby's head and body, along with a set of thick padded straps that are worn like a shoulder-and-waist harness. Newborns and smaller babies should always ride rear-facing in the carrier, while older babies who can hold their heads upright unassisted can ride forward-facing and enjoy the view ahead of them. Made of machine-washable 100 percent cotton, the carrier can be easily adjusted from the front for your baby's size. Although the carrier has been tested for use with babies who weigh from 8 to 25 pounds, some parents found that the carrier became uncomfortable to wear and placed a lot of strain on the lower back when it was used to carry a child weighing more than 20 pounds. --Chris Burns | | | | Similar Products

| | Average Customer Review: Based on 524 reviews. | | Great for keeping baby close This infant carrier is great. I was able to start using it as soon as my baby was born because he weighed over 8 pounds. It is very easy to use once you get the hang of it. I mastered getting the baby in and out both awake and asleep after a couple of days which is great because he falls asleep in it almost every time. I am able to carry him comfortably for as much as 2 hours and he weighs over 12 pounds (I'm only 5'2".) He does get very warm in it, so I only use it for short periods of time when it is hot. I like that I can go into small shops or the park without taking a bulky infant car seat. It is great for when I have to shop alone, because I don't have to worry about putting his infant car seat into a shopping cart, which gives me extra room for purchases. It is also great for keeping others from touching your baby when you don't want them to. It is very durable and washes well, which comes in handy for spit up and diaper leaks. Even though it is a bit pricey, I feel I will get my money's worth because I plan on using it for more than one child and I know it will last long enough to do so. | | New Mom of a Big Baby Boy loves this carrier! My son weighed more than 17 lbs at 4 months of age. Breast milk is like fertilizer! Anyway, I found this carrier to be a life saver. I carry him when I do laundry, take walks in our neighborhood, shop for groceries and sometimes when I am working on the computer. He is always snug and comfortable. I love the way it feels so secure for us both. This was a gift...thank God because it was rather expensive. I purchased the Snugli which is not as secure as the Bjorn in any way and it was more complicated to use. The Bjorn took less than 5 minutes to put on the very first time. I returned the Snugli to the store and kept the Bjorn. I take it to the daycare with my son and wash it once a week. He is now 5 months and 20 lbs and the carrier is holding up nicely. He'll outgrow it before it wears out so I can keep it for Baby #2. | | Love this carrier! I can't say enough good things about this baby carrier. I received one as a shower gift for my second child (who's 2 1/2 now) and loved using it. It made shooping, especially the grocery store a breeze. My son loved being in it, too. I am using it for my now six week old daughter as well. It does take some practice getting used to putting baby in, but it became second nature to me.
As far as housework, I vacuum and load the washing machine while "wearing" my daughter, but not anything else...puts her too close to cleaning chemicals and/or dust. But it's great for walking the dog, getting the mail, taking a walk, etc. etc.
There was an earlier comment about having to bend at the knees all the time while using the Baby Bjorn. That's actually the proper form for your body to be in to pick something up so I don't see why there should be a problem with having to do that. Besides, you can turn all those knee bends into squats and help burn off that baby weight while you shop! Plus, I can't imagine keeping an infant in the car seat not only in the car, but in the store as well!
I didn't find it overly hot for baby, and I'm in South Florida! It's fairly lightweight, and what little extra warmth is great for the super strength air conditioning in the mall or grocery store.
If baby cannot see out while facing forward with the top folded down, than your carrier is adjusted incorrectly. This carrier is designed to last you a long, long time, from 8 lbs to 33 lbs! You just have to remember to let it "grow" with your baby.
Bottom line, the Baby Bjorn is worth the extra money - I always felt secure with my son in it and still do with my daughter. It is great for keeping baby super close to you and delivers on what it promises. Super product and a must have! |
