| The Jerusalem Democratic School opened in September 2002 with 28 kids ages 5-15. Despite difficult conditions such as sharing space and waging a legal battle against the ministry of education, we built a beautiful school with solidly running institutions and a friendly and respectful atmosphere. Ours is the second Sudbury school in Israel, and one of more than 20 democratic schools in the country. Although several of these schools are fully accredited and state-funded - including the other Sudbury school, Kanaf - the government is still trying to quash us. We scored a victory when our appeal against the ministry for not accrediting us was accepted. However we are still waiting for accreditation. Also, we have rented a beautiful space of our own for the next years. |
