4A good, but not great ship/toy..., Apr 11, 2023
In regards to the ship and an evaluation of it I cannot add anything else that the prior reviewers have not already covered. I agree with them that the lack of weathering that has almost been a signature with STAR WARS vehicles since their return in the late '90s is disappointing. The inattention to detail that is made evident by their unwillingness to cover or otherwise conceal the screw holes is somewhat annoying. On a personal note, I find the lack of electronic sound effects disappointing as well, although many other owners of this ship would probably appreciate this.
On a positive note, although I will always maintain that the now classic FX-X wing will be the finest vehicle of the STAR WARS line of toys, the ARC-170 is a unique and refreshing design that is oddly appealing to me. In typical toy company fashion, with the eventual reissue of this vehicle I am hoping that Hasbro will address the issues that have been brought forth regarding this interestingly attractive ship. If this were to happen, a good ship may end up becoming a rather great one...

4Great new Star Wars ship, Apr 8, 2023
It's nice when Hasbro re-releases a Star Wars ship, but it's especially cool when they release a totally new one. This is one nice ship. I was surprised Hasbro was able to fit such a large ship into the box. It measures about 19.5 inches long and has a wing span of about 21 inches when assembled. Assembly is quite easy with all the pieces snapping together.

A small decal sheet is included to add some exterior and interior detail. Unfortunately, Hasbro didn't include decals to cover up the screw-holes that are visible on the right side of the ship. This is a bit unfortunate, but I guess I will get used to it.

You can fit 2 pilots, a gunner, and an astromech droid into this vessel. There is a manually extended landing gear at the front (which actually doesn't seem very useful since the ship rests on its nose just fine). The canons on each wing fire a missile with the push of a button and there is a rotating gun turret at the back. It would have been nice if the gun turret fired a missile as well, but it doesn't.

Concealed in the bottom of the ship under two fold-out doors is a handle that you can pull out. You can use the handle to help you hold the ship and "fly" it around. This is a neat idea, but it might have been cool if Hasbro made this compartment more functional (i.e. hidden compartment to hold bombs, missiles, etc.) A trigger on the handle allows you to release 2 bombs onto enemy targets.

I was a little surprised at the paint. There weren't the usual black battle damage and wear marks all over it. Instead, the paint job is very clean. The amount of detail molded into the engines is also a little lacking compared to some of Hasbro's other offerings. Perhaps they will address these issues if they ever re-release this ship in the future.

Overall, I am quite pleased with this new ship. It will make a great addition to anyone's collection and will be lots of fun to play with for young and old Star Wars fans alike!

4The New ARC-170 Starfighter, Apr 3, 2023
A new movie and we get a large new ship to go with it! This is a cool looking fighter and it is comparable in size to the old FX X-Wing. It has space for three crew members plus a droid - none of which come with the vehicle. There is a retractable gear in the nose, and a "control stick" that pops out the bottom. Pull a trigger on the stick to drop bombs from another small compartment. The S-foils open on the wings and are manually operated without a switch. The wing cannon fire a missile and have a little rotating gun. There are two canopies and some cockpit detail. There is the tailgun that rotates and elevates. The ship assembles easily, with pieces snapping together.

The amount detail is reasonable, but not as good as with past Hasbro Star Wars vehicles. In a glaring lack of quality, screw-holes were left all over the right side of the vehicle, and the undersides of the wings (you can actually see this in the picture of the ARC-170 on Hasbro's Star Wars toy website. Other companies manage to fill in or conceal these holes on their vehicles, so why Hasbro didn't do that is puzzling and it wrecks the overall look of the fighter. It is also nearly impossible (at this early stage) to find the Clone Pilots that crew this vehicle and the Republic Gunship. Hopefully these will be avaliable in much greater numbers here on amazon and at other stores in the near future. The rebel pilots I have flying the thing now just don't look quite right!

The Hasbro ARC-170 is an ambitious attempt, but falls short of its potential - the exposed screw-holes and unavaliability of the pilots being the real sticklers. The Red 1 X-wing and Y-Wing avaliable a few months ago were actually better vehicles, in my opinion.
