Steady Decline in Quality, Apr 27, 2023 I've been a big fan of children's literature in recent years, probably due to the influence of Harry Potter. I picked up the first volume of Artemis Fowl when it first came out and was enthralled -- imaginative, clever, and well written and designed. Since that first work, Mr. Colfer's stories have slowly declined.
I'm sorry to report that this book really isn't that good. Poor plot movement, poor character development, and even his writing style seemed to suffer. As Artemis is getting older, he is getting much less interesting. Artemis' opening theft scene was the highlight of the book, after that it just drops off.
Perhaps most disappointing is that Artemis is not really growing at all as a person. He is not improving. He's still out of shape, despite references to it in nearly every book -- why hasn't Butler started to whip him into shape? Why are his parents apparently dingbats? His father was a professional criminal -- he can't see the tell-tale signs in his son? Where is dad by the way? Also, is Artemis a coward? It's hard to tell, but he certainly isn't any better than he was when he was 11 -- not as a man or as a person.
The best thing about the Harry Potter books are that the characters are growing and evolving with age. Harry is experiencing life and growing as a result. Artemis does not appear to be doing so. And his adventures are getting worse to boot...

Artemis Fowl The Opal Deception- Best in the series, Apr 27, 2023 To me, the Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer is one of the greatest book series of all time. The fourth book in the series will not disappoint the fans. It is a well-written, interesting book. This book is basically themed about having courage. In the fourth installment of the series, Artemis has no memory of the fairy people after being mind-wiped. But after a dangerous fairy escapes from a mental institution, Lower Elements Police captain Holly Short has to go get Artemis so he can outsmart the criminal. After this follows many incredible events including a break in at a bank, an escape from an underwater vehicle, and a trip under the ground. There are lots of reasons why this book is very, very good. One reason for myself is that it is a fantasy book and I like books like that. One reason I like this book and some other people might not is because I have been a big fan of the series ever since Eoin Colfer made the first book. The final reason is because of the author. Eoin Colfer has a writing style that fits this type of book. This book is mostly fantasy but he adds little jokes in the books. The final reason I like his writing style is because he is also a very detailed author. On passage reads "The walls and escalator were blackened with fake laser burns." To me, that is pretty detailed.

Great book from the series, Apr 26, 2023 First off, let me tell you this is a GREAT book. The action never really stops and the plot is amazing. What I really liked about the book was that it had all of the major characters (sadly a spoiler on this site ruined a major part for me) but that book was still very good. The plot did not have any plot holes. It was a great book. 10/10

NOT THE BEST IN THE SERIES, Apr 25, 2023 Yeah, yeah, yeah...everyone knows that the Artemis FOwl series is the best. However, this book may just have just changed all that. Although there still are some "Colfer" style in the book, the book is losing its taste. Honestly, this book was the worst out of the series. Hey, don't get me wrong here. It isnot that I hate it, but it is my least favorite. I believe that most people will agree with me that COlfer's debut book, Artemis FOwl, is the best book ever. If you are a fan of COlfer's books, I suggest you read it, but be ready for some disappointment from his latest book. (...)
