 I did the CISSP exam and I can tell you this is the best!, Apr 26, 2023
I bought the CISSP All in One book, as well as the CISSP Prep Guide (Krutz) and the Official ISC2Guide to sit for the CISSP Exam. I did my CISSP exam this year (2005) and I can tell you that this book, the All in One CISSP, is THE book. The chapters are so well written and so well explained that you do not need any other book for the exam. I was really surprised to read these difficult concepts so well explained and so clear, because it is no easy task to write in "plain" English all these concepts. If you buy this book, you definitely do not need other book, all what you need is here.
I have read negative comments for this book. I really do not understand why there should be any negative comment. Anyway, think this way: for me, it's the best book, and I can tell you that if you do not consider it the best, at least it's among the best around. Trust me.

I have taken the CISSP certification (ACED IT!) and I have read 5 CISSP books. Among all, this book was very thorough and detailed. But, it was extremely misleading and had too much information which were not needed for the exam. If you are planning to take the exam, please BUY the Official ISC2 book. It is OFFICIAL, straight to the point, and written by an instructor who wants you to pass and learn the real deal...

I have used several resources in preparing for the CISSP exam. The known difficulty with the exam is the breadth of the material covered; the somewhat ambiguous, subjective questions; and the definitive sources to study in preparing for the exam.
To cut to the chase, I have the following problems with the Shon Harris book:
1) The book is not organized in an ideal manner to prepare the student for the exam. There is a 1-1 mapping between the CBK domain and the chapter; consequestly, some of the chapters are far too long (e.g. Telecommunications and Network Security is 144 pages)
2) There is too much fluff in the chapters. Ms. Harris utilizes some diagrams and pictures that show her sense of humor, but add no pertinent information to the corresponding text.
3) There is far too much missing information. If you go and check out the various study guides at www.cccure.org you will notice (1) reassuring thing and (1) troubling thing: the study guides are reasonabbly consistent in the material they cover and much of the material they cover is absent from the Shon Harris text!
4) Point number 3 leads me to my final point...and that is that the purpose of a study guide is to cover all the material on the exam...and Ms. Harris' book doesn't do that.
My recommendation: read the Ed Tittel CISSP Certified Information Systems Security Professional book; select and study several of the study guides at www.cccure.org...
Just my 2 cents since I am in the midst of studying for the exam.

Overall the book is good. I prefer the "The CISSP Prep Guide: Gold Edition by Wiley" for CISSP exam preparation. However Shon Harris's coverage of cryptography is excelent. The book font is small, which makes it hard to read. Also Shon sometimes tend to repeat things.

Dont buy this book,
I will be running out to buy the Krutz CISSP Exam Prep book ASAP!
Let's just say that after the first three chapters Ms. Harris's book, it became real obvious that she felt more need trying to push her agendas. Most authors have the good judgement to stay neutral using his/hers he/shes.... NOT Shon. It is quit annoying.
It get's two stars. One for her ability to cut and paste information that is freely available on the internet. The second because she uses some funny illustations.
