Jokingly referred to as the White Stripes' British album, Elephant is scattered with cultural references that give away the fact it was recorded far from home. Just listen to the lyrics on "Seven Nation Army" ("From the Queen of England to the hounds of Hell") or the album outro, in which someone chips in, "Jolly good, cup of tea?" But while there are new twists here, from Meg White discovering her voice to a tongue-in-cheek threesome with Holly Golightly, Elephant is no great departure for Jack and Meg White. They still push their creativity (and the boundaries of their eight-track) to new heights. Check out the startling, Queen-inspired "There's No Home for You Here," while the deep bass line on "Seven Nation Army" makes it a classic indie dance track. But while some songs fly off into new realms, there's plenty of their trademark straight-up bluesy rock, notably the overtly sexual "Ball and Biscuit." Yep it moves along on this album rather nicely,but there is nothing out of the ordinary going on here.Just another rock album. The only exciting part of the white stripes really is Meg whites breasts....exquisite volumptuous breasts....but thats my opinion

Just reading the one star reviews makes me laugh. "O Yeah, Jack White just, uh, puts out, um, distorted guitar noise, and doesn't even know how to write music" some of you say. Considering I've listened to this album straight through about 30 different times, I think I would probably know what I'm talking about. Each song has its own unique sound, and all are memorable. Some are loud and filled with yelling and the sounds of eletric guitar, others are soft and acoustic, and others are mix of both. Jack brilliantly combines elements of punk, garage rock, classic rock, blues, and sometimes a little bit of country (Hotel Yorba) into one amazing CD. Since it's obvious that Jack has more talent in his pinkie than you a$$ bandits have in your whole body, it would be wise to shut the hell up and enjoy the music.

When I first heard "Seven Nation Army," it almost literally took my breath away. So cool, so harsh. I actually didn't want to like them becasue of all the hoopla, but I started to, anyway. And the "last Button to Button" is just plain weird good fun. Doom, doom doom doom doom...doom. Bring it, Jack!

It took me a while to warm up to the White Stripes... I just wasn't sure that I wanted to be sucked into the Hype. Perhaps they were a little to main stream for me. I decided to give elephant a try; I had had White Blood Cells - and was a bit wish washy on it.
Well all I can say is if you do not have this CD, you NEED to get it. Jack White just knows how to write songs! I compare it to the old AC/DC that I used to listen to in high school... even if you want to turn away, you just can't!
