The Princess Diaries is the diary of Mia Thermopolis, a major high school disaster who discovers that she is actually a royal. This book is set in Manhattan and the main characters are Mia Thermopolis, her parents, grandmother, and her best friend Lilly Moscovitz. Mia lives with her artist mother and is a social outcast in her school, and as if that is not bad enough, she discovers that she is the princess of Genovia -a small country- and that she is no longer social disaster Mia Thermopolis, but Princess Amelia Mignonette Grimaldi Thermopolis Renaldo. After it appears on the news headlines, it is as if everyone in her school had changed their minds about her overnight, and the cheerleaders are sitting at her table. What's worse, she has to take princess lessons from her Grandmother -the Queen of Genovia- and put up with her rather neurotic father lecturing her about her duty to the throne.
There are many conflicts in this book -both internal and external. Such an example of an external conflict is when Lilly and Mia get into a fight and stop talking to each other, because Lilly thinks that Mia is turning into one of the popular girls at school. This book caters to the interests of teenagers from all over the world, who experience the pains of high school life. It might also appeal to parents who have teenage children.
Reading The Princess Diaries made me feel as if I was looking at my own reflection in the mirror. I wasn't the only one who was capable of getting an F in algebra, or forgetting how to tie my shoelaces. I didn't have the worst hair in the world- Mia Thermopolis probably fared much worse than me. Even though The Princess Diaries is a typical, rather predictable modern-day fairytale, I still enjoyed it thoroughly. It isn't a book that I would call intriguing, but it is something that would inspire a long line of imitators, and is certainly something worth a read. This book also has an original spark of humour to it, which makes it so interesting. The best part of the book was probably the part where Mia finally realises, at the Cultural Diversity Dance, that Josh had played her out and that Michael was the one who liked her. I loved every bit of The Princess Diaries; it was such a page-turner, and I recommend everyone to give it a read. This book was even made into a movie -that's how good it is!

the books are funny creative and cute. You'll see to see gawky mia's slow but exciting transformation into a perfect princess platter as told by her.packed with pop culture refrences and with stuff teens like me(i'm 13)can relate to.

The reason why I enjoyed this book so much was because it is neat that just an average girl found out that she is a princess. It is like a dream come true. The other thing I liked was that the book was written in a diary form. The part of the book that I disliked was when everyone knew Mia was a princess everyone started treating her differently and noticing her. My favorite character in this story is Mia. The reason why I like is that she is a very strong person and she can make a bad situation into a good one. I would recommend this book to anyone. It is very easy to read. When you read this book you will be glad that you chose this book. What is neat about this book is there a lot of series that go along with this book.. There is also a movie about this book. So it is neat to see if anything is the same or different as the book So you can see how the character is growing and how or if anything is changing. I hope you would give this book a try because it is worth reading.

Princess diaries is the best book and movie although they are so
different! When I first got the book I said "aw Man" but when I
started to read it i said in a happy voice "O MAN, THIS ROCKS".
I liked how Meg Cabot set it up,like in a diary entry way.

Princess Diaries is about a young girl who just found out she is going to be the next princess for Genovia.
Mia's dad has come to visit her all the way from Genovia. She finds this very strange considering she usually goes over there. Her dad finally tells her why Mia needs to take over the throne of a princess. If anyone found out, it would only make her look even weirder. She can't even tell her best friend Lilly. There is not way she would believe her. No one can change her mind about becoming a princess, not even the queen, or as Mia would call her, Grandma. As she tries to make her decision, she also deals with boys, school, her best friend, and fat Louie, her cat.
I thought this was a good book. It was not like the movie, it was better. To find out how different, read this book. You will feel like you are one of Mia's close friends.
