Barbie's excellent musical debut features first-rate voices and songs, and a captivating story about love, responsibility, and freedom. Based on Mark Twain's The Prince and the Pauper, the 85-minute computer-animated adventure is about two almost identical girls who, though born into very different circumstances, are amazingly alike. A chance meeting between the young women becomes significant when Princess Annaliese is later kidnapped and (pauper) Erika suddenly becomes a crucial component in the search for the princess and her captor. The princess's confinement and Erika's glimpse into the life of a princess leads both girls toward a new compassion for the other and a serious contemplation of the conflict between one's sense of duty and the desire to be free. Adding to the general confusion is the princess's intended, the handsome King Dominick; her devoted tutor, Julian; and the Queen's evil advisor, Preminger. (Ages 3 to 9) --Tami Horiuchi

5Wonderful movie!, Sep 20, 2023
I ordered and received this movie about a week ago. This is a first Barbie movie for my 3 year old daughter and she LOVES it! She is just now getting into Barbie play and this movie has fast become one of her favorites. She watches it at least once a day and I have watched it repeatedly with her and still have not tired of it. The music is beautiful, the animation realistic and the story is so heart-warming and wonderful. Full of fun and charm - I highly recommend it!!

5Best Barbie movie so far, Sep 1, 2023
This is my 3-year-old niece's favorite Barbie movie, and mine too. She wants to watch it at least once a day. The story is entertaining and well written, the characters are delightful (Martin Short as the villian Preminger is a hoot), the graphics are beautiful (though the animation in all Barbie movies is fairly primitive), and the songs and singers are terrific. My niece also loves to listen to the music CD (disc 2) while driving in the car, and we're trying to learn all the words. Highly recommended!
