Editorial Review The Extreme Creatures expansion set gives you a snarling, crawling, stinging, pouncing infusion of brand-new parts and possibilities for your Robotics Invention System, the core robot-building lab in LEGO's popular Mindstorms series. Providing 149 pieces to experiment with--including rubber wheels, more gears and spokes, even eight fiber-optic strands--the set guides you through the creation of a whole zoo of creatures (thanks to a step-by-step Constructopedia). Build wonderfully strange creatures such as the Manozoid (walks on two feet or four), the Bomber Fly ("flies" up and down a suspended line), and the Scorpion (stings anything that crosses its path). Just as with the Invention System, this kit includes a Windows 95-compatible CD-ROM with all the software you need to program your creatures. You can even teach them to communicate with each other and work in pairs or packs. --Paul Hughes |

This is a good buy, Jan 29, 2023 I'm 12 years old and I bought the LEGO extreme creatures set, which I thought was well worth the value. The fiber optics are neat except theyr'e kinda bulky and hard to find a spot for. Also, it takes up a moter to turn the LED which lights up the fiber optics. I rated this 4 stars for fun level, because it's not too exciting but it's still pretty fun. The challenges on the CD rom are creative and the harder ones are really quite challenging. I thought this toy was very educational, it taught me a lot about how robotics work. I gave it a 4 on durability because some of the pieces are small and easy to lose. I like the offroad wheels and the interesting pieces, if your'e making a creature the included pieces really help it come to life. I really enjoyed the tips in the constructopedia on how to build chassis, grabbers, tails and all sorts of things a creature should have. I recommend this set for all lego fans, it is very entertaining, this would also make a great choice for you're first expansion set.

Pleased customer, Aug 7, 2023 We bought this for our son and he really enjoys it. He has other Lego items (the mindstorm series) that we have gotten for him and it is all interchangable. He builds different remote control items with this, anything from robots to cars. These type of legos are very educational. Everything that we have bought him from this series has worked and we have not had any to tear up.

Only for die-hard MindStorm fans, Jul 26, 2023 I was disappointed with the way LEGO implemented the fiber-optics control. I was hoping for the capability to send a bit-mask down to fiber optics unit, telling it which combination of the 8 strands it should activate. Instead, you get one light inside the unit, and have to waste a motor to turn the light to the one fiber optic strand that you want to have light up.I bought this on sale at more than ...% off, and I am still not sure if I got my money's worth or not. I do not recommend this to anyone who isn't a die-hard LEGO MindStorms fanatic (like myself!).

Waste Of Money, Mar 21, 2023 After I got this kit I was very disapointed. This kit has no full instuctions for any robots, the challenges arn't fun, and the sample programs for the robots don't work well. The only part of this kit I liked was the fiber optics, and for ..., it isn't worth it.
