The pyramid-shaped Grip and Grab Rattle is made of sturdy, safety-tested plastic tubes in bright colors that are connected by clear plastic spheres. Each sphere contains a red bead, smaller beads move freely through the tubes when the rattle is shaken. So what's the big deal? You'll have to ask a baby. For some reason, they love this thing--won't put it down. They'll go to sleep to the sound of it being gently shaken in front of them, or will miraculously be distracted from the car-seat fussies. (Mini van dealers should include the Grip and Grab as a standard feature). This Lamaze rattle also provides learning opportunities for babies, almost from birth. The tubes are about the diameter of an adult finger--perfect for grabbing with tiny hands, and later, for chomping with tiny gums and teeth. Early lessons in cause and effect and hand- eye coordination are taught when baby moves and the rattle shakes. I have 2 daughters. One 3 and the other 5 months and both of them were and are captivated by this contraption. The 5 month old loves the sound the beads make and can literally watch them for an hour. I highly reccomend this toy to any first time mother or expecting mom. Put it on your List!!!!!!!!

Who cares if this toy encourages visual development or independent play? As far as my baby is concerned this toy Makes Noise. Lots of it. In fact, I think that if she'd learned the war-cry of the Rohirrim, she'd be doing that to accompany the violent shaking she gives the rattle. Raaaaarhhhhh. It's a bit like a one-six-month-old Maurauding Horde and has been for weeks. This rattle is the business. And why? Because It's Louder than all the other (wussy) rattles. Raaaarhhhh!

The colors are bright, and it is eye catching, but my son was never interested for long. We bought it when he was 2 mo and now he is almost 8 mo, and he never pays attention to it. It is made from very hard plastic and is fairly large for tiny hands. I am not sure if that's why he doesn't play with it. It's not inviting to touch... just to look at.

Based on the great reviews, I expected my children
(now ages 2 and 3) to love this toy. However, neither one of them ever showed any interest in this toy.

One of my son's favorites!, Feb 13, 2023
My son got this as a gift when he was 3 months old. He has always liked to look at it. But lately he likes to hold it, shake it, put in his mouth, pound it against other things, ect. He is definatly picky when it comes to toys (he will only reach for or play with certain ones) and he loves this one.
